Chords can be represented in either music or chord windows. I won't cover reading chords via music as it is self explanitory once you inderstand how to read music. Chord windows are little pictures of a short portion of a keyboard:
On these windows a small dot is placed on specific keys to tell you to play them. They are usually the opposite colour of the key itself:

So if you wanted to play a C Major chord (C, E and G) the chord window would look like this:

All of the above chords are shown with the root note first. What this basically means is that if the chord is a C, the root note will be a C. And if the chord is an E, then the root note will be an E, etc. In case you don't know what the notes on the keyboard are the diagram below illustrates:
You can play all of these chords in different positions, by shuffling the notes around to different positions. For example, the C Major chord above has the notes C, E and G, in that order. But you could also play it G, E and C in that order:
You could also play it E, G, C, or any other arrangement you can think of. So try to learn all chords in different positions, and pick the position as feels appropriate to song you are performing.
